A Fresh Look at Contact Lenses:
Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Launches ACUVUE® OASYS™; with HYDRACLEAR™; Plus to Combat Contact Lens-Related Dryness

 

London, U.K. – 2nd June 2005 – Johnson & Johnson Vision Care announced the launch today of a revolutionary new contact lens, designed to combat contact lens-related dryness and discomfort, two main reasons for patients dropping out of contact lens use. ACUVUE® OASYS™; Brand Contact Lenses with HYDRACLEAR™; Plus have been developed to reduce contact lens-related dryness by delivering a lens that helps keep eyes feeling moist and fresh, even in challenging environments.

 

Overcoming Contact Lens Dryness

Over half of the three million contact lens wearers in the UK experience contact lens-related dryness and associated discomfort: some 31% reported discomfort and 24% cited dryness as reasons for abandoning their lenses.

 

ACUVUE® OASYS™; with HYDRACLEAR™; Plus, the second product in Johnson & Johnson Vision Care’s ULTRA COMFORT SERIES™;, is a highly wettable and ultra smooth lens. It has been specifically designed for patients who experience contact lens-related dryness, those who work in air-conditioned offices, opposite computer screens, are frequent flyers or in other challenging environments.

 

Why ACUVUE® OASYS™;?
Clinical trials with ACUVUE® OASYS™; with HYDRACLEAR™; Plus have produced outstanding performance results with patients reporting excellent comfort levels. Seven out of ten trial participants reported that they were ‘barely’ or ‘never’ aware of their contact lenses and 67% of contact lens wearers ranked the lens as the best they had ever tried.

 

Additional results also showed that ACUVUE® OASYS™; with HYDRACLEAR™; Plus lenses were as comfortable after seven days of extended wear as when first put in.3

The Lens
The HYDRACLEAR™; Plus technology is the reason for this breakthrough in contact lens comfort in those patients who have previously suffered from dryness in contact lens wear. It is the brand name for Johnson & Johnson Vision Care’s proprietary technology that creates a highly wettable, ultra smooth contact lens especially for eyes that feel dry from contact lens wear.

 

ACUVUE® OASYS™; with HYDRACLEAR™; Plus has a low modulus to optimise patient fit and comfort, and also provides high levels of oxygen to the cornea, up to 98 % to the open eye and 96% to the closed eye.5
Its properties make this brand a premium choice for patients who want high performance contact lenses that reduce the problems of contact lens dryness and discomfort.

 

ACUVUE® OASYS™; with HYDRACLEAR™; Plus lenses can also be customised to patients’ needs, and are recommended for either two weeks of daily wear or one week of overnight wear. In addition, this premium lens offers the highest level of UV-blocking* of any soft contact lenses; at least 96.1% of harmful UVA rays and 100 percent of UVB rays are blocked out.
